A Tiny Stray Cat Changed the Way I Think About Trust
RELATIONSHIPS & PSYCHOLOGY

Sometimes I look at Onyx and feel like I didn’t adopt a cat… I adopted a tiny squirrel.
Two months ago, she was just a stray cat.Honestly, I wasn't planning to adopt another pet. I truly didn't want one. But life had other plans.
Now she spends hours next to me while I work. She watches everything I do on my laptop, follows me from room to room, and proudly drags a cat wand that's almost three times her size across the house just because she wants us to play.
What amazes me the most is how quickly trust grew between us.
Sometimes I wonder how much of it comes from her personality and how much comes from finally finding a place where she no longer had to protect herself.
It reminds me of something I see every day in coaching.
*Trust doesn't grow because you try to control someone.*
It grows when people feel safe, respected, and free to move closer at their own pace.
Of course, people are far more complex than animals. But sometimes the foundations of secure attachment are surprisingly similar.
That's why I think my relationship with Onyx is worth exploring. Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing short videos using our story as a starting point to talk about trust, vulnerability, and healthy relationships.
